Biography
Assistant Professor
Department of Neurosurgery, University of Florida College of Medicine
Steven G. Roth, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida. He completed his undergraduate studies in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2007. Following graduation, he worked as an intraoperative neurophysiology technologist, where he provided key information to neuro and orthopedic surgeons allowing them to more safely perform procedures on the brain and spinal column. His passion for neuroscience and patient care ultimately drove him to pursue higher education. He earned his Master’s in Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University and matriculated at Albany Medical College in 2012. During his four years in New York, he participated in clinical outcomes research involving electrophysiology and neuromodulation for chronic pain. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and graduated magna cum laude in 2016.
Dr. Roth went on to pursue his residency training in neurological surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition to general neurosurgery, he became proficient in the endovascular treatment of pathologies including stroke, cerebral aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformations of the brain and spinal cord. He participated in numerous research endeavors through the Vanderbilt Spinal Column Surgical Quality and Outcomes laboratory and the Vanderbilt Cerebrovascular Outcomes and Management research group.
After residency, Dr. Roth was selected for the prestigious Adult and Pediatric Comprehensive Spine Fellowship at NewYork Presbyterian in Manhattan. He split time between the Columbia University and Weill Cornell campuses and enjoyed mentorship from distinguished orthopedic and neurosurgical faculty members including the esteemed Drs. Lawrence G. Lenke, Ronald A. Lehman, K. Daniel Riew, and Dean Chou. During his tenure at NewYork Presbyterian, he was exposed to a wide breadth of operative spinal pathology with a particular emphasis on complex deformity reconstruction.
Dr. Roth provides specialized care for patients with complex disorders of the spine. His practice involves the surgical management of the full spectrum of spinal pathology including degenerative conditions, congenital and acquired deformity, intra- and extradural tumors, vascular malformations, trauma, and rheumatologic disorders, using both traditional open and innovative minimally invasive techniques.
Dr. Roth is proud to make a lifelong commitment to providing the highest level of care to his patients and community. He continually works to refine his craft and strives to deliver exceptional neurosurgical care. His patients will always be his top priority.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, snowboarding, fishing, and is a dedicated fan of his hometown teams, the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles.
