Mentorship, Observership, Research, and Education in Spine
The M.O.R.E Spine Program directed by Dr. Julie L. Chan offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical research while working alongside a multidisciplinary spine care team. Participants will interact directly with patients undergoing spine surgery, helping to collect patient-reported outcome measures before and after surgery to evaluate recovery, function, pain, and quality of life.
Through this experience, students will develop skills in patient communication, clinical data collection, research ethics, and database management while gaining exposure to the clinical workflow of surgical practice. Students will contribute to ongoing research projects aimed at improving patient outcomes and advancing evidence-based spine care. The program is well suited for undergraduates interested in medicine, surgery, public health, biomedical research, or other healthcare professions and provides valuable experience in translation clinical research.
The volunteer research program is available to local high-school (16+) and Undergraduate students at the University of Florida. No prior research experience is required. The program requires commitment from undergraduate students for a minimum of one year(s), and dedication of at least 3 scheduled volunteer research hours per week.
