Patrick DeSouza, MD, PhD

Patrick DeSouza, born and raised in central Massachusetts, earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as well as a minor in Psychology, from Boston University. Following graduation, he worked as a research technician at the Massachusetts General Hospital for 2 years, when he first began exploring brain tumor genetics and epigenetics.

He then joined the Medical Scientist Training Program at the Washington University School of Medicine to pursue combined MD-PhD degrees. There, he continued his studies of brain tumor epigenetics where he developed a human stem cell model of cancer genetics, transcriptomics, and evolution. In addition to presenting at national and regional research meetings, he also enjoyed participating in advocacy groups for LGBTQ+ rights and underrepresented minorities in medicine.

Patrick is excited to join the neurosurgery residency program at the University of Florida, where he is looking forward to developing his skills in all areas of neurosurgery. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his 7-year-old Akita/Pitbull mix dog and exploring local hikes and foods.
