Andrew MacNeil, MD

Andrew MacNeil

Andrew MacNeil was born and raised in Gainesville, FL. He completed his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology at Stetson University in 2020. He stayed in DeLand for an additional year and graduated with his Masters in Business Administration in 2021. During his time at Stetson, he played as an outfielder on the Hatters’ baseball team and served as a team captain for two years.

Andrew then returned to his hometown in 2021 to begin medical school at the University of Florida. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for neurosurgery, seeing the way that neurosurgical disease can afflict a loved one’s life and the privilege a neurosurgeon has in caring for patients in such vulnerable situations. Andrew enjoyed volunteering throughout medical school with the MedBuddies and MediGators mentorship programs to help guide future aspiring physicians. He was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He also received the 2025 Albert L. Rhoton, Jr., M.D. Neurosurgical Excellence Award, recognizing a graduating UF medical student who has excelled in their pursuit of a career in neurosurgery.

Andrew is thrilled to stay in Gainesville and continue to wear his orange and blue while he completes his neurosurgery residency at the University of Florida, with an expected completion date in 2032. In his free time, you can find Andrew playing cribbage and backgammon with his girlfriend Elinor, on the tennis court or golf course, or cheering on the Gators in The Swamp and the O-Dome.
