Kristin J. Weaver, MD, PhD, joined the University of Florida Department of Neurosurgery as clinical lecturer in July 2016.

Dr. Weaver was born in Biloxi, MS and graduated Summa Cum Laude (4.0) from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL with a degree in Chemistry. Upon graduation, she entered the MD, PhD program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS as a Wallace A. Conerly Scholar.

She began her Neurosurgery residency in 2010 at the University of Florida.  During her residency, she was awarded the 2013-2014 the Research Fellowship sponsored by the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) for the study, “Optimizing neural repair following cervical spinal cord injury using a multi-modal cell transplant strategy.”  These experiments test a promising treatment approach in an important and clinically relevant injury model, and can significantly improve our understanding of the therapeutic potential of a range of neuronal transplantation approaches, including many of the stem cell therapies currently being tested experimentally and clinically.

Dr. Weaver was also awarded the Charles Shank Award for Professionalism in Neurosurgery in 2016.   She completed her neurosurgical training at the University of Florida and subsequently joined the faculty in the Department of Neurological Surgery.
