When Stroke Strikes Young

Healthy and active Barbie Diaz suffered a stroke at age 18 while driving on Gainesville’s Archer Road, causing her to hit a car. Diaz was immediately in the care of the UF Stroke Program team and physicians within UF’s neurosciences who diagnosed Diaz with a rare disease called Takayasu’s arteritis.
