Kristin J. Weaver, MD, PhD

KRISTIN J. WEAVER, MD, PhD, was born in Biloxi, MS and graduated Summa Cum Laude (4.0) from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL with a degree in Chemistry. Upon graduation, she entered the MD, PhD program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS as a Wallace A. Conerly Scholar. Her dissertation focused on the effects of selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors on the developing rat serotonin system under the guidance of Dr. Kimberly Simpson. Using numerous techniques such as fluorescent immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy, she specifically investigated the changes in raphe nuclei and their corresponding axons in the forebrain. Her work has been presented at many national scientific meetings as both poster and platform presentations.

Dr. Weaver began her residency in 2010 and is scheduled to complete the program in 2017. She plans to pursue a career in academic neurosurgery and has a particular interest in pediatric neurosurgery.
