Dr. Roper has been elected to the Board of Directors for the American Epilepsy Society. He received a $250, 000 research grant from the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE), and he has been invited to the editorial board for Epilepsia.

Dr. Albert Rhoton received the Golden Neuron Award of the World Academy of Neurological Surgeons. It is their highest award and has been awarded only one time before.
The Academy is made up of neurosurgical chairman and academic leaders from leading medical centers in the world.
Their 2009 meeting was held in September at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
